A Day Spent With Habitat for Humanity
Put on your hard hats — the Hudson team is back at it with another volunteer project! After volunteering for Morris Habitat for the first time last year, we couldn’t wait to do it again.
Last Friday, the whole office spent the day volunteering at a work site in Roxbury Township, New Jersey. This particular project consisted of 2 multi-family homes (condos) that will house twelve different families. These families are people who cannot afford to purchase a typical home, and go through a special application process that determines if they’re truly in need of housing assistance. Applicants must also be willing to invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners, and be able to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan.
All qualified applicants are entered into a lottery. Each selected family is then on their way to becoming homeowners. The project we worked on is estimated to finish later this year.
The team was broken up into a few different groups and worked on various projects throughout the day. Some hopped in the truck to make errands around town, several cleaned up the second floor to get ready for another work crew, and others spent the day sheetrocking and caulking.
A special shout out to our site supervisor, Bob for keeping us on track. Thanks for keeping us entertained and motivated throughout the day!
Habitat for Humanity provides so much more than a house. They give struggling families shelter, safety, hope, and a place to call home. Our team is grateful for each and every chance we get to give back to our community, and we’re thrilled to continue to do so with Habitat for Humanity.
